Trusting senior citizens can be some of the easiest targets for scammers — especially senior citizens who reside in a community or assisted living facilities. While these types of facilities cater to more independent-styled living, one of the added benefits of residing in those communities is all the hosted and scheduled activities and events.
Residents and families should be aware of scheduled presentations, luncheons, or events sponsored by independent professionals like insurance salespeople, financial advisors, or brokers.
An unsuspecting senior who feels safe and secure in their “home” while meeting with these professionals can easily be swayed, tricked, or convinced to purchase financial products, legal documents, and other paid services without even realizing or requiring it. They are easy prey for any potential tricksters who roll through a senior facility.
Not all presenters are wrong or have nefarious intent. Still, it is good to be aware of the events that your loved one participates in and know who they share or exchange information with. If shared with the wrong person, they could become a victim of harassment or fraud.
As always, extra eyes and extra precautions can never hurt when trying to protect your aging loved one.
